Founded in 2018
Luckenbooth Atelier began life in 2018, as Jennifer Earle Kiltmaker when I began my journey into kilt making professionally. Following a taster course at the Edinburgh Kiltmakers Academy in 2017, I realised how passionate I was about the art of traditional kilt making and made it a priority in my life to work my way through the accredited course from the SQA in this skilled section of textile work. Many doors closed in my face, but finally a window opened when Drumbeat Centre took me on, and I met Beverley Scarlett in September 2019. As the SVQ is a work based qualification I had to be working on commercial kilts - and so began the journey in earnest of my training and my business. I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of Howie at 21st Century Kilts and enjoyed a few days in his store, but unfortunately Covid 19 then shook the world, and the majority of my training switched to video calls and working alone. I work from home in a purpose built studio. I have experience not only in kilts, but in corsetry and dressmaking as well. If it involves a needle and thread, I am likely to be willing to give it a go! After completing my SVQ in Kiltmaking in 2021, I then went on to study Fashion, at UHI Outer Hebrides on the Isle of Lewis in 2022-23.
